Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Anand is undoubtedly one of the top 3 movies by the master film maker. While watching the movie you can feel the pain felt by Rajesh Khanna as he has very few days left. A very calm and soothing film made which is on a very serious topic but still keeps the light mood going through out. The entire starcast is deep into their characters which makes the film to be cherished for lifetime. A special mention to the meaningful, melodious and memorable songs by Salil Chaudury. The film was to be made with another cast alltogether and the character of Anand was inspired by Raj Kapoor, who use to call Hrishikesh Mukherjee as “Babu Moshaye”. The film is also dedicated to Raj Kapoor and the people of Bombay. The another influence to the subject was a film by another master of the art, Akira Kurosawa. And the theme of “Anand” is very close to the Japanense Movie, Akira Kurosawa’s “Ikiru”. But in my opinion this influence is more as an admiration of one master for another. As in this case both are the true masters of their art. A must have in your home library for all in the family.
