High Crimes (2002)

There is a tag line to this movie, which goes like this, “Everything you trust. Everything you know. May be a lie”. The line is so cunning and shocking, and you also feel the same while watching this great thriller and court room drama. Whenever I see a “Morgan Freeman” movie, I become a greater fan of his. A true actor in the complete sense. Here he is a looser lawyer who is higher by a lady (who is a high powered lawyer herself) to fight the case for her husband who is suddenly arrested with mass murder charges. He was in the military and now they have to fight military justice system themselves. As the film moves, more surprising layers unfold and you watch each development with eyes wide open. There are completely unexpected twists and turns which powerful enough to blow the mind. One of best thrillers I have seen, Highly Recommended.
Directed By Carl Franklin
Starring : Ashley Judd & Morgan Freeman

Witness For Prosecution (1957)

Agatha Christie’s brainstorming novel is transformed into a highly entertaining movie. A black & white classic which will just shake your mind when you will come to know the real game going behind the whole movie. It’s a court room drama involving a husband and wife, where the suspicion keeps shifting like a pendulum but the climax is truly brilliant. The best role is of the lawyer who gets caught in the well planned game and finds himself in a strange position in the end. The movie made me a fan of Agatha Christie’s writings. A must watch for lovers of crime and court room dramas. I rate it as one of the top 5 best court room movies made all over the world.
Directed By Billy Wilder
Starring : Tyrone Power & Marlene Dietrich

A Few Good Men (1992)

A tough and strong movie with perfect performances. The movie is about the dark side of the defence forces. Its about those codes and conducts which are known only in the inner circle of the forces and about the incidents which do not come out in the light. The most powerful performance is by Jack Nicholson and his appearance in the court in the climax is a treat to watch. It makes you sit straight as he walks in the courtroom. Tom Cruise scores as the ruling attorney in the court. The chemistry between Demi Moore & Tom Cruise is also very pleasing. A highly recommended movie with the most punchy dialogues.
Directed By Rob Reiner
Starring : Demi Moore, Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise & Kevin Bacon

Erin Brockovich (2000)

Based on a true story. Its about a women who comes to know that a big and huge plant operating near a city is causing some serious health hazards to the people living in that area and they don’t know it. The plant has been polluting the water supply and people are dying in that area due to that. Julia Roberts plays this role convincingly and she is too pretty handling her children and the investigation at the same time. Her boss is also entertaining each time he feels helpless in front of Julia. Though its not a usual kind of movie but while watching it you will never find a dull moment. And at the end you will be asking for more. In the climax as she wins the case, you feel like winning yourself and that is really an achievement for the director.
Directed By Steven Soderbergh
Starring : Julia Roberts & David Brisbin

The Jury (U.K.’s T.V. Serial) (2001)

It’s a British T.V. Serial which was appreciated by all. It is about a case on a young sikh student for killing his English classmate. It carefully handles the controversial topic of racism in UK. It shows how Asians are humiliated and how children have different treatment in their schools. But the director does not take any sides here, he is not partial but very much focused on his story. The court room cases with two english lawyers are just worth watching. It can surely be considered as one of the best court room dramas ever produced. Highly Recommended for all.
Directed By Pete Travis
Starring : Derek Jacobi, Anthony Sher, Stuart Bunce, Gerard Butler, Nicholas Farrell

The Man Who Sued God (2001)

A very less known movie with a very strange name and unusual subject. Its purely an imaginary theme but its very entertaining and thought provoking too. The court room scenes in which the lawyers are fighting a case against The GOD are well written and reference to The Bible sayings is also worth mentioning. Though you amy find it illogical at times but its certainly a good choice for people, who keep on looking for unconventional movies.
Directed By Mark Joffe
Starring : Billy Connolly & Judy Davis

Ek Ruka Hua Faisla (1986) / 12 Angry Men (1957)

Though this is version of an english black & white classic “12 Angry Men”, still I consider acting by the 12 men in the Hindi movie a step ahead of all the 12 English Men. Special mention must be there of Annu Kapoor And Pankaj Kapoor who played old men, when actually both were very young and new at that time of their career. Both the movies are without any songs and with only 12 characters. Both “12 Angry Men” & “Ek Ruka Hua Faisla” surely deserve to be in the collection of all movie lovers. In the English version Henry Fonda deserves a special mention for his strong acting skills. He is simply superb in the movie. I strongly recommend you should see both the versions.
Directed By (Ek Ruka Hua Faisla) Basu Chatterjee, (12 Angry Men) Sidney Lumet
Starring : (ERHF) Pankaj Kapoor, Annu Kapoor, S. M. Zaheer & More (12AM) Henry Fonda & Others

The Client (1994)

A small child witnesses a crime incident and this leads to his tough days in the court. But he deals with all the lawyers and courts with his strong confidence and conviction. The act of the child in this thriller is a must see. The scenes when he is sitting in front of the opposition lawyers is very well written and superbly executed. One of the best thrillers with very less blood shed and very rich content. Two thumbs up for the small wonder.
Directed By Joel Schumacher
Starring : Susan Sarandon & Tommy Lee Jones

And Justice For All (1979)

This is a film about the life of lawyers and how they play with truth as they know the loopholes of the law. Al Pacino gives a power packed performance as the lawyer fighting with his conscience. A must watch movie for those who like court room dramas and law suit movies. It gives you the inside story of the relationship or nexus between the police, lawyers and the judges who decide about the fate of many lives every day, sitting on a chair. Al Pacino finds it tough to fight a case for a judge who he knows has done the crime. The judge pressurizes him to fight his case as he is the best lawyer in the town. But just as he is going to win the case he takes a U turn and what comes next is a well executed climax of the movie. Undoubtedly one of the most entertaining endings. Thumb Up for Al Pacino.
Directed By Norman Jewison
Starring Al Pacino & Jack Warden
