Charade (1963)

If you are a Hitchcock fan and love watching his films then this is what you must watch as your next movie. Strangely, its not in any way related to Alfred Hitchcock but it can surely be called as a Hitchcock movie never made by Hitchcock. A fast paced thriller with a highly entertaining climax and impressive performances by the lead pair Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. The story revolves around a few characters who suspect each other and the screenplay keeps you guessing every 5 minutes with its engrossing sequences. The lead couple looks cute in their small fights and chases. In fact the film is so intriguing that you will find it tough to stop in between and would like to watch it in one go. Its undoubtedly better than the thrillers made even in the current times. One of the best mystery movies I have seen with a pinch of comedy and romance too. It’s sad that these kinds of light and entertaining movies are not being made anymore by the current filmmakers. Make sure this is your next watch if you are a fan of mystery and thriller movies.

Directed By Stanley Donen
Starring : Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn & More

The Lady Vanishes (1938)

A pure Hitchcokian movie with all the thrills, excitements and suspense which is always there in his masterpieces. The movie is also rated among his best works from the black and white era. The story is about an old lady who disappears in a train and then it leads to further confusions and many thrilling sequences afterwards. There are small entertaining subplots running simultaneously with the main storyline like the conversations of two cricket fanatics travelling in the train. The climax of the movie is quite amusing with the surprise element executed brilliantly by the master of suspense. Don’t avoid this taking it as a black and white movie. It is still a much better thriller than many of the current ones. The movie is capable of turning you into a Alfred Hitchcock fan altogether. Highly Recommended.
Directed By Alfred Hitchcock
Starring : Margarate Lockwood, Michael Redgrave & More.

Murder By Death (1978)

There are very few movies which combine the elements of mystery and comedy together and also come up with very good results. “Murder By Death” is that kind of movie which has got both the said ingredients and also in the right quantity. Its an all starcast movie in which everyone is playing the role of a famous detective. They are all invited by a mysterious person at one palace and a murder is announced. The interactions between the characters is very comic and entertaining. A very simple and hilarious movie where all the actors have perfect timings. An engrossing screenplay which is interesting from the first scene itself. It’s a light, fun movie for the time when you just want to unwind, relax and enjoy.
Directed By Robert Moore
Starring : Peter Sellers and many more comic stars.

Frenzy (1972)

Its one of the few under-rated movies of Alfred Hitchcock, but I found it among his most entertaining ones. As you watch the movie you will find many sequences copied in numerous hindi films from bollywood. The script is full of suspense, anxiety and spine chilling chases. Its about a serial killer who strangles women with a necktie. The viewer knows him from the start and you are made to witness how he murders his friend’s wife and manages to escape. Its like you are one of the characters of the movie watching everything happen in front of you. It’s a dark and grim movie, without a happy ending. A not to be missed true Hitchcockian experience.
Directed By Alfred Htichcock
Starring : Joe Finch, Barry Foster, Anna Massey & More

Rear Window (1954)

What should a person do when he gets a big leg fracture. According to this movie he starts gazing from his window and starts looking into what’s happening in the building opposite to his house. As the days pass he notices some strange incidents which make him suspicious and then some unexpected and entertaining sequences follow. This is the plot for Rear Window, a Hitchcock Classic. A very fine thriller with novelty in its theme. Its makes you glued to the screen with its tight screenplay and direction. Should not be missed.
Directed By Alfred Hitchcock
Starring : James Stewart & Grace Kelly

Rope (1948)

This is an amazing piece of master craftsmanship by Alfred Hitchcock. The complete film is in one house where a party is being enjoyed by few people. There are friends and also enemies within the party. And the amazing part is that there is a dead body of a person who is just murdered before the party lying in the huge box on which the dinner has been served for all. Only two persons know about this secret and how they manage to maintain the secrecy even when suspicion arises in the mind of few is the main plot of the movie. This was a successful stage play which was adapted for this movie. Certainly one of the best five movies of Alfred Hitchcock. The movie will definitely make you his fan. A must watch. Not to be missed.
Directed By Alfred Hitchcock
Starring : James Stewart, John Dall & More

The General’s Daughter (1999)

One of the few movies about the incidents which occur in the military camps but they remain under the carpet and the world never gets aware of them. It’s a story of a women soldier who is raped by her fellow military men in the camp itself and all the top officials are just trying to hide the incident. It unfolds the ugly side of Offical Systems in the countries. John Trivolta plays the role of the person who gets this out of the carpet. The confrontation scenes are just perfect. Strongly Recommended for intense movie lovers.
Directed By Simon West
Starring : John Trivolta & Madeleine Stowe

Khamosh (1985)

It is generally taken as the first film of Vidhu Vinod Chopra but actually its not his debut movie. This is a well made film, which is a murder mystery and as a good thriller it sticks to its plot. There are no unwanted sub plots and no songs in this well acted and directed film. The murder happens in the first 20 minutes and the film takes on from there. There is an outdoor shooting unit shooting in a Pahalgam and the murder happens within them. The tantrums of Bollywood Film Industry are shown tastefully in the movie. All the veteran actors like Amol Palekar, Shabana Azmi, Pankaj Kapoor & Naseeruddin Shah are aptly cast and deliver the goods in a fine way. The suspense is also good and the film is worth watching. Specially recommended for myrder mysteries and thriller fans.

DIAL “M” FOR MURDER (1954)

Alfred Hitchcock’s one of the finest movies, based on a hit play. Many new English & Hindi films are based on this movie. When you finish the movies you have many things in mind and you just want to salute the master filmmaker for the following points:
1. The whole film is 98% in just one room.
2. When it was released it was a 3D movie but the DVD version is flat. But since it is a murder mystery Hitchcock used 3D such beautifully that u never think that u r watching a 3D. Infact Hitchcock never wanted to make it in 3D.
3. The brilliance of acting is such that the Film should be kept in the Film Courses in the Instituitions. If you are a true mystery lover, you will want this movie in your collection. Surely. A Smash 5 Star Rating From My Side .
Directed By : Alfred Hitchcock
Starring : Ray Milland, Grace Keely & Robert Cummings
