Anant Mahadevan is surely a die hard fan of Alfred Hitchcock which can be seen in many of the movies he has directed. This Imraan Hashmi and Udita Goswami Hit Musical is highly inspired from “A Perfect Murder (1998)” which was in turn a version of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Dial ‘M’ For Murder (1954)”.
It was really nice to see a well made thriller shot stylishly at a low budget with a brilliant actor. And I was more impressed to know that it is a work of a debutant director.
No doubt, the director “Rajkumar Gupta” and his lead actor “Rajeev Khandelwal” both have the spark to make it big in the future. But it was really disheartening to know that the movie which is being appreciated by many in the public as well in the trade is a take off from 2005 released movie called “Cavite”.
The Original is directed by the duo “Neill Dela Llana” & “Ian Gamazon” and has exactly the same narration as in “Aamir”.
Its acceptable to be inspired in order to come with something original. But I think “lifts” should be avoided to prove your talent. “Raj Kumar Gupta” has got the talent and if he had chosen an original theme for his debut movie then he would have been appreciated much more without any dark patch in the reviews.
Willing to see an original movie from him next time.

Anant Mahadevan has accepted himself that he is highly inpsired from the great Alfred Hitchcock and his previous films have also proved the same. In his latest venture he copies another classic from the master of suspense, “Rebecca”. But the movie is a pale attempt as compared to the Black & White masterpiece.

“Apna Aasmaan” has some interesting similarities with Robin Williams & Robert De Niro starrer “Awakenings”. Where in “AA” there is a fraud doctor giving a miraculous medicine to cure mental disorders, in Awakenings there is a real story of strange & sudden changes in such patients, when they were given some new medicines by their doctor on a trial basis. In both the films the patients return to their original disorders at the end. In “AA” the director tries to make it more interesting with the child showing some extra ordinary talents, but fails to impress the viewer.
On the other hand “Awakenings” is an emotional masterpiece with brilliant performances by all the artists. Read more about this Classic by clicking on the link below:

It was really sad to know that the critically acclaimed and many awards winning movie, “Astitva” was completely inspired from Clint Eastwood’s “The Bridges of Madison County”. When i saw TBOMC, i was spellbound as its pure poetry on celluloid and a worth seeing movie. Mahesh Manjrekar made “Astitva”, inspired from this movie, but changed the sensitive topic into a tense drama which even becomes cunning and sarcastic in the end. He kept the character of the lady alive to face all the hardships after her confession. Whereas the original movie is lovable till the last scene, the hindi version has only one saving grace “Tabu” who has acted brilliantly. For many reasons, still “Meryl Streep” is more believable in her impactful act. She is just adorable in the scenes which show her inner conflicts. Along with “Clint Eastwood” they both look like real life lovers and talk through their eyes. The English original is a poetic expression on screen straight from heart, not to be missed, even if you have seen “Astitva” or not.
Shankar’s “Aparichit” is inspired from many sources. Its main plot is very much inspired from Sydney Sheldon’s novel “Tell Me Your Dreams” and also from the cult movie “Se7en”. The action sequences are quite influenced by “Matrix”.
Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s masterpiece “Abhimaan” is said to be inspired from real life incidents but it also has similarites with “A Star Is Born” (1954). In any case it’s a true piece of art with classic songs and which also has the real life couple Amitabh & Jaya playing the role of talented husband & wife.

Its considered to be an original plot and an innovative screenplay. I was also having the same opinion till I got to know about this movie from the late seventies called “Blind Rage” (1978). Though this movie is considered to be a low budget movie but the theme has very acute similarities with “Aankhen”.
In both the movies blind men are trying to loot a bank and there is lady also training them in this. Chek out at :

However I am sure that Vipul Shah’s movie is a much better option out of the two, as it has the highly entertaining Paresh Rawal along with Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachhan.
One thing surely goes in favour of Abbas Mastan after seeing their movies. Even most of their films are inspired from English Cinema but still they come up with really Well Made and Enjoyable Thrillers. This time their “Ajnabee” (2001) follows ‘Consenting Adults’ (1992)
