Chhal (2002)

This thriller and gangster movie starring Kay kay menon follows the outline of “Donnie Brasco” (1997) featuring Al Pacino and Johny Depp. But it was far away in quality terms from the Original English Hit.

Contract – “The Departed” & “The Assignment”

RGV gets inspired partly from “The Departed” (which was also inspired from “Internal Affairs II”), where a person is sent as a spy in the criminal gangs. But RGV version is not completely based on “The Departed”. However the opening sequence when the officer comes to the retired officer’s house to give him an offer is also quite similar to the scene in “The Assignment”.

Chotti Si Baat (1975)

One of the most loved comedy films famous for these : The bold & amusing teachings of Ashok Kumar -who has a love & confidence teaching school, the innocence of Amol Palekar & Vidya Sinha and the funny defeat of Asrani.
Its really sad and disheartning but its true that the film is inspired by “School For Scoundrels” (1960). Chek Out :

Chak De India – Inspirational Sources

Respecting the quality movie made by Shimit Amin, I would like to add that “Chak De! India” is inspired by the Hollywood film “Miracle” (2004), which is also based on the life of a Ice Hockey Coach played by Kurt Russell, and it also takes some parts from “The Mighty Ducks” (1992).
Its said that the Indian version is based on the life of Indian hockey coach Mir Ranjan Negi, who led the women’s team to victory. It is true in the real sense, but the film-making, the writing and many sequences in the film borrow heavily from the English Flicks.

To make you believe surprisingly, here are the similarities.

1. If “Chak De! India” is based on the life of “Negi”, then “Miracle” was based on US hockey coach Herb Brooks.

2. In “Chak De! India” its girls hockey team brought together form different states of India. The girls are those talented ones who have lost hope of making it in the game.
And in “Miracle” its the boys Ice hockey team wherein the boys are College going talented youngsters who are called from different colleges of various universities of U.S.A.

3. In both the movies the Coach is somehow blamed and could not see the Major Cup Win when he was playing and is now considered a looser.

4. The penalty shot missed by Shahrukh is also there in the same context in “The Mighty Ducks”. Check out :

5. The first scene where the Shahrukh meets the Selectors in their office for his selection as a Coach is quite similar to the same scene in “Miracle”.

6. The most astonishing is the “motivational sequence” where Shahrukh insists the girls to say that they are playing for India and not for their own states. This is straight away taken from “Miracle” where Kurt Russell punishes his team till the boys say “I play for the United States of America.” Quite Amusing.

7. Both films have players fighting with each other on state & status differences.

8. The main player in both the movies is the Goal Keeper, and in both the screenplays he/she has some problems at home in his/her personal life.

No Doubt, that “Chak De India!” is a well made, entertaining and motivational movie, but the disappointment arises when the people are getting credits for the elements which are borrowed and inspired from the English Flicks.
Still, I congratulate Shahrukh on experimenting with this kind of movie which is quite expected now from the star of his stature.

Chalte Chalte (New)

This Sharukh -Rani starrer is an inspired version of “Forget Paris”. Friends talking about the lead pair, about their love, their marriage and the after marriage fights are all there in the English flick too. But no doubt its a good inspired movie here with melodious songs and emotions.

Chocolate

Entirely based on “The Usual Suspects”. Though the hindi version has more character build ups and glamour but the roles of Irfan Khan, Anil Kapoor and even some sequences are straight from the Original.

36 China Town

This crime thriller with young starcast is highly inspired from “Once Upon a Crime” (1992)
Only here the change is that in the English Original there is a dog lost and in the hindi version it’s a baby lost which is found by Shahid & Kareena.
