I had my doubts as the movie started and not only all my doubts were right but the film went even beyond my suspicion. First of all, I am completely not in the favour of re-doing any past hit. This in my opinion simply shows that we are out of ideas now. Secondly, even if you have decided to remake a Hit then at least you should do it in your own style and with little innovations added to it. But “Karzzz” just goes on following the original flick scene after scene. Not only exact scenes but the dialogues are also taken as it is from the Rishi Kapoor starrer. You find Rishi Kapoor echoing in the whole movie and Himesh just looks likes imitating.
Though comparisons are inevitable, but lets drop that and see Karzzz as a movie on its own. In that case also it fails to hold you tight and is not able to create enough excitement and interest in the viewer. Even if I consider it as a first timer who hasn’t seen the original “Karz”, then also I don’t find this version convincing enough. Now, the reasons why I found it, not comparable to the Golden Hit of the past.
One – The Acting - All the participants in the cast are trying to overshadow each other, trying to put up a confident show which is clearly visible. Himesh doesn’t suit the role completely with his strange hair style (who suggested him that?). He looks uncomfortable doing action scenes and the viewer just can digest him doing the fight sequences. What worked in “Aap Ka Suroor” was his image, which is missing in this attempt. Urmila is not the Urmila we have seen in “Ek Hasina Thi”. There is completely a different actress here doing the “Simi Grewal” act. There is a huge confusion in the age gap of the characters. If Himesh has re-incarnated and is 25+ now, in that case Urmila should be atleast 50. But there is no white hair and old age signs and she seems to have the ageless formula with her. Simply undigestible. The debutant Shweta Kumar is sweet, but has a long way to go and may find the road tough in the future. The killing looks of Tina Munim were missing which was the reason why the desired romantic touch was not generated.
Second – The warmth of Durga Khote as the mother was lost since Rohini Hattangiri did it in a highly dramatic way. The emotion of a mother had a great pull in the original which touched you emotionally but you will not find it here.
Third – Where was the lovable act of Pran as “Kabira” and cunning looks of “Premnath” as Sir Juda? Danny as “Kabira” is simply a miscast and his love for Hindi movies could not strike a chord. He was doing just another role in the movie with nothing special. Gulshan Grover as Sir Juda is also wasted as he is not given the required time to prove himself.
Fourth – The Background Music – In the original, a central character was the background score which pulled you in. That is not there in the musical man Himesh’s version of the classic. I really expected the background music to be chilling but was disappointed.
Fifth – The Songs – Himesh always comes up with catchy beats and dance numbers which can be easily played in the Discos and dance floors. But a subject like” Karz” needs more emotional music and love songs than just dance numbers. Himesh kept following his own success path of music with beats and sound designs and he forgot to add emotions and calmness in the songs as required by the theme.
So, the movie was not as expected and was below the mark. In short Subhash Ghai got inspired by “The Reincarnation of Peter Proud” and made “Karz“, which proved to be a better product. Following the tradition, now Himesh also gets in the same mood but comes up with a Lazy inspired product relying too much on the music and his golden touch. The laziness is also there in its name too i.e. Karzzzzzzzzz.
For first timers, it is just an ok product with some good music. But I will have to see the Original “Karz” again to wipe this off from my memory and get those sweet musical moments back.

Completely inspired and based on “Fools Rush In” featuring Salma Hayek. Here is an example of a movie which is blatantly made on the english original and only indian elements are added, in order to give it a Indian movie feel. The movie also has a “Jab We Met” hangover in it as you can see a similar punjabi family drama in it.

The famous musical featuring Shammi Kappor and Sharmila Tagore has a sub-plot taken from 1961 classic “Come September” where the owner of a big house in a hill station finds out that his caretaker has turned his mansion into a Hotel in his absence.
The theme music of this English Comedy also inspired “Nazren Mili Dil Dhadka” track from “Raja” featuring Madhuri Dixit.
Jackie Shroff and Sanjay Dutt featuring thriller takes its basic plot from “La Femme Nikita” or “Nikita” (French / Italian / English) (1990), Where a criminal is given a chance to live a better life if he helps in catching and killing another hardcore criminal.
The movie has a plot inspired from “Just My Luck” where “Good Luck” gets ransferred from one person to another whenever they get in contact with each other. But Kismet Konnection has many other things merged in the movie, which takes away the beauty of this plot. Whereas “Just My Luck” is completely based on this single them which makes it a better original.

A movie from the house of Rakesh Roshan certainly raises expecations. And the publicity just before the release did add to the excitement.
But all pump and show is nothing and the film disappoints in all departments.
First of all the movie is completely predictable from the very first scene and it simply goes on with sequences which are just repetition of stuff seen many times before. In a nutshell the story is about some friends witnessing a crime and then the villains keep following them in the rest of the movie. Only this time the novelty is that the four friends are all mental patients who find an opportunity to roam out of their hospital.
All the talented artists including Irfan Khan, Rajpal Yadav, Arshad Warsi and Juhi Chawla are just wasted and no one gets any scenes to talk about. Rajpal Yadav is the one who is better among the four patients as the freedom fighter. Arshad Warsi, strangely is not doing any comedy but shows that he can be an angry young man too. Irfan Khan can be seen trying to do the hard work as a mental doctor. Suresh Menon has no dialogues and speaks through his facial expressions. But as the script has nothing for them in store so they all seem to be helpless.
The movie is inspired from a 1989 movie “THE DREAM TEAM” but it’s not at all an impressive copy.
The greatest drawback is that it’s not a comedy, though it was publicised as a hilarious comedy flick. You keep waiting for comedy scenes to come but they are never there. All the songs come as an interruption and are also not enjoyable at all. The biggest let down is the “Ek Rupaiya” song after the interval, which makes you think, why the director chose this song to be there in last print. Only the last scene with some good dialogues is a kind of silver lining in the dark clouds.
The biggest asset of the movie ”Shahrukh Khan’s Item Number” is well shot but it alone cannot save the film from sinking. Neither can the dance numbers by Hrithik Roshan and Rakhi Sawant. Rajesh Roshan / Ram Sampat music has nothing to talk about except the item numbers.
The pace picks up just before the movie ends and the director tries to imitate a Priyadarshan kind of hilarious climax sequence which falls flat.
After you finish the screening you just wonder why Rakesh Roshan backed up this project. In my opinion the talented father and son (Rakesh & Hrithik) knew that they have a weak final product so that is the reason they added 2 item numbers and also had a last moment publicity gimmick of plagiarism.
A Big Let Down with a huge difference between the expectations and the final outcome. It is neither a good comedy nor a good thriller.
Rating : 1/5 (That too for the talented star cast and their efforts)
The hit comedy “Kya Kool Hain Hum” is heavily inspired by Mostro,II (Italian) or The Monster (English).
There is character who gets caught in the most compromising actions and there is lady cop too in disguise following him. Chek out at

The hit flick about the world of pornography movies takes it major content from “Hardcore” (1979). Its not a complete rip off as it has new angles inserted in it like the love angle and the marriage in the film in its early stage. In the english flick it’s the father looking for her missing daughter which leads him to the video world of pornographic films. But in “Kalyug” it’s the husband who is looking after the culprits who have caused the death of his wife.

The movie is also said to be similar to “8mm” too. However it should be added here that the hindi version was a well made movie having the emotions in the right dosage and songs worth remembering which turned it into a hit.
Yash Chopra’s “Kala Patthar” is a classic in its own sense which has few of the best sequences between Amitabh Bachhan & Shatrughan Sinha.
Regarding its inspirational sources, the Amitabh part of the story is quite inspired from “Lord Jim” (1965), which was also based on the novel with the same name.
The mine disaster of water flowing into the tunnels was inspired by a real life incident which actually took place at “Chasnala” in Bihar now Jharkand (India). And It is also very similar to the mine flooding consipiracy shown in “Gold” (1974).
