Om Shanti Om
A pure mass entertainer from Farah with all the right ingredients.
The not to be missed movie’s climax and plot is highly influenced by “KARZ” which itself was inspired from “The Reincarnation of Peter Proud”.
Infact Farah & Shahrukh have paid their tribute to two masters in the film :
Firstly they pay their dues to “Karz” by starting the film with its song, Rishi Kapoor & Subhash Ghai himself making a cameo.
Secondly they pay their tribute to Manmohan Desai kind of entertaining cinema by bringing 31 stars together. This was originally done by Manmohan Desai in his Amitabh Bachhan starrer movie “Naseeb” and the song was “John Johny Janardan – Tara rum pup pum pum pum”. In this song Amitabh is a hotel waiter serving all the stars of Bollywood.
I really admire this courage to show the respect towards their inspirations in the film itself.
Well done Shahrukh & Farah. Keep it up!.
Other Inspirations :
The Climax is similar to that of Bimal Roy’s “Madhumati” (1958), where the heroine who was dead comes alive and takes revenge.
The Akshay Kumar sequence at the Awards Function is also inspired by a foriegn movie sequence. Check this out :
