This is a second rare example when an Indian version “Main Azaad Hoon” can said to be better than the original English flick. But the credit of the idea and story rightly belongs to the makers of “Meet John Doe”. The black & white english classic is really innovatively made and it was really a bold experiment to make such kind of social movie at that time in 1941. But Frank Capra is well known for his socially relevant movies and this is no exception to that. Talking about the hindi version, its more entertaining and leaves a more stronger impact on the viewer. Amitabh has done a brilliant job as Azaad and equally good is Shabana Azmi as the reporter. Its undoubtedly the best movie of Tinnu Anand as a director and it also has a very good song, “Kitne baazu kitne sir, gin le dushman dhyan se”. But still I prefer giving atleast an acknowledgement to the original movie.
Directed By Frank Capra (Eng) / Tinnu Anand (Hindi)
Starring : Gary Cooper & Barbara Stanwyck (Eng) / Amitabh Bachhan, Shabana Azmi & Annu Kapoor (Hindi)
